What signs of hope do you see in this little arpillera? For many years life for children in Chile was difficult and sad. A cruel government had taken their fathers and brothers away. The rest of the family had to work hard to get enough food to eat. There wasnt any time left over to just be a child. Women and girls often made arpilleras like this one to show their dreams that one day their children would be able to play again without fear. One mother said, We believe that recreation is one of the rights of children. So we save a bit of money each month, from selling arpilleras, so we can send the children to a few days at a day camp.
